Playing Chess

Chess is a great thinking game and can be challenging as you learn it, but if you are interested don’t give up. Select an easy game and start learning. When you open the Chess App, you will see this page. You can immediately start playing a One Player Game.

Select the “One Player” button to play against the computer. Enter your name or Avatar and the difficulty level you want (start easy and work you way up). Chose whether you want to play the White or Gold pieces. Finally choose the Difficulty of the game you want: all the way to the left for beginners and all the way to the right to lose consistently ;}. The way the pieces move and other rules can be found online (one suggestion is included neat the end of this Article).

Or you can check out the game Options. The Options are usually not something a beginner would need to change but more advanced players may chose a timed game. Turn sound off for silent play; rotate the board if you are playing a 2 person game and you handing the tablet back and forth; set a Move Clock off (default), the screen on the left is shown if Move Clock is turned off and you can set think time to 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes. If you turn Move Clock ON you can then set the initial time (the time to make a set number of moves) and Seconds per Move.

When you are done With options use the “BACK” icon to go back to the game selection screen.
A Chess board will be displayed and you can start your game. If you are just learning Chess here is a YouTube video that might help. Let us know if you know of a better video.
You can also play a 2 person game. The Chess App is not set up for remote play with another person but you can play a 2 person game if you are both in the same room. By default the board rotates for each player so each player handles the screen during their turn. You can change the Options to turn off board rotation so players see the board from their side and the board doesn’t rotate.

Enjoy the game of chess. It is challenging and fun but it does take a bit of practice to win as the difficulty is increased. Don’t get too frustrated, it’s only a game…
