2 – Play Classic Solitaire

Playing a game of Solitaire is a fun way to work on your tablet skills.

Many of us learned to play the classic Solitaire game as children. The tablet version of the game has the same rules and even includes some of the variations in play that some people have.

Best of all, it is a good way to practice the tapping and dragging actions that are required to run apps on your tablet.

This lesson includes three items:

  1. A Video demonstration of the basics of the game. This will give you a quick start.
  2. A step by step How to Play Solitaire description of the game’s options and play.
  3. New to Klondike Solitaire? You can read the rules and instructions below under Rules of the Game.

How to Play Solitaire – Video

Launch the game by tapping the Solitaire Classic icon on your Home Screen. Find the Solitaire icon near the top of your Home screen and tap the icon with your finger to start the game.

On the opening screen your will choose the variation you wish to play by the number of cards you turn from the deck as you play. The choices are to play with 1 or 3 cards.

Tap the desired variation with your finger. The variations are:

1 Turn or Draw One – Tap Continue (1 card)

3 Turn or Draw Three – Tap Continue (3 cards)

Tap to make your selection, if you are uncertain, just tap Continue 1 card. Watch as the cards are dealt very quickly and you can begin play. If you need help with the rules, see Rules of the Game below.

Moving Cards

If you know the game, you can immediately start to move cards.

There are two methods to move cards:

1 You can simply tap the card you wish to move and the tablet will determine where it can be moved to. It is a computer and makes perfect choices although it is not able to read your mind and you may have other moves in mind!

2 You can drag the card by touching the card and dragging it to the desired destination.

Quit Game – New Game

When you are ready to quit or if you need to give up and get a new deal, it is easy. In fact much easier than assembling and shuffling 52 physical cards. Here are the steps.

1 Tap the Pause button on the upper list to display the Pause screen.

2 Tap New Game to deal a new game

3 Tap Replay this Deck to repeat the last deal

4 Tap Quit to leave the game.

The goal of the game is to move all the cards from the seven columns at the bottom to the four piles at the top left. Each pile at the top must have cards of the same suit, in ascending order from Ace to King.

To play the game, follow these steps:

1. Tap on the deck at the top right corner to draw a card (or three cards.) You will move cards into the columns in order to eventually move all of the cards to the four piles on the top.

2. Tap or drag a card that you want to move. You can move a card to another column if it is one rank lower and of the opposite color than the card at the bottom of that column. For example, you can move a black 9 to a red 10. You can also move a group of cards that are in sequence and of the same suit, as long as the bottom card of the group can be moved to another column.

3. Tap or drag on an empty column to move a King or a group of cards that starts with a King. You can only move one King at a time to an empty column.

4. Tap or drag an Ace to move it to the top pile of the same suit. You can also tap on any other card that can be moved to the top pile, as long as it is the next rank in the same suit. For example, you can move a 2 of hearts to the top pile if there is an Ace of hearts there already.

5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 until you have moved all the cards to the top piles, or until you have no more moves.

You win the game when you have completed all four suits in the top piles. You lose the game when you have no more moves and the deck is empty.

Of course, playing a game isn’t all about winning. But it is fun to place all of the cards in the top piles.

As you play and have completed most of the decisions about card play, you will see the AUTO WIN button on the button of the screen.

This means that you will win this game and you can let the tablet complete the rest of the moves for you. Tap AUTO WIN and watch the remaining moves completed for you!

Your reward is the winning automation at the end. It’s a lot of fun.

Have fun playing and remember…..
