Zoom Performance Recommendations

This article recommends a short term way to try to address the issues we experienced with our ZOOM sessions. Although we have researched the issue, it is difficult to completely validate this approach without testing in an upcoming Cohort ZOOM session. Here’s the plan.

When the tablet gets low on memory, it moves things to storage, when it gets low on storage, everything runs slow. And when things run slowly applications may not run correctly. The more services an app uses the more memory, storage and processing power it requires.

This is the most common reason that large applications such as Zoom may run into problems. Using the camera, microphone, displaying multiple real time images of the Zoom call participants, etc can use up significant computer memory, storage and processing power. Something has to give and that is typically performance (responsiveness).

The safest, quickest and easiest way to improve our Zoom capability is to reduce the number of other things trying to use the computer resources. Here is our short term solution for participating in a ZOOM session:

  • Close down all apps (see below)
  • Copy down the zoom meeting number and the passcode
  • Start Zoom from the tablet Home page
  • PLEASE report ANY issues to TFS (the help screen – this time you are helping us 😉
